Barbara J. Jourdan, 57, of Iuka, died at 12:57 p. m., Tuesday, December 18, 2007, at Salem Township Hospital.  She was born on March 22, 1950, in Salem, daughter of Dennis and Bernice (Shelton) McLean.  She married Tyrone Jourdan on Feb. 17, 1968, in Salem, and he survives.  In addition to her husband, Mrs. Jourdan was survived by a daughter, Kelly Lynn Hurley and husband Tim of Elsberry, Mo.; a son, Douglas Leo Jourdan and wife Tracy of Clarksville, Tenn.; three brothers, Chuck McLean and Dick McLean, both of Salem, and Doug McLean of Wash.; one sister, Linda Atteberry of Salem; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Benjamin, and Jake.  She was preceded in death by her parents.  Mrs. Jourdan was employed at Salem Medical Center as a receptionist.  Services were held at 10:30 a. m., Friday, Dec. 21, at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem with Johnny Troutt officiating.  Interment followed at Iuka Cemetery.

Timothy Charles Kane -- February 1, 1950 – November 22, 2021




Tim passed away quite unexpectedly on November 22, 2021, at his beloved Colorado mountain home. Born February 1, 1950, in Watseka, Illinois, Tim was the son of Charles J. Kane and Phyllis M. (Johnson) Kane and was the second of their four children. The family ultimately settled in Salem, Illinois, where Tim grew up. Tim graduated from Salem Community High School in 1968. He went on to graduate from Southern Illinois University in 1972 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.




Tim began his career as a Mining Engineer for Shakespeare Oil Company in Salem but soon realized he was called to a different career path. Before setting out in a new career direction, Tim spent several months traveling throughout Europe. Upon returning to Salem, he packed up his ’66 Volkswagen and headed for Colorado. Tim explored several areas in Colorado and decided that Boulder was where he wanted to live. He immediately went to work as a carpenter.




In 1977 Tim began his tenure at Wyatt Construction as a construction superintendent and quickly advanced to the position of Senior Project Coordinator. During Tim’s 40-year career with Wyatt Construction Company, Tim managed the construction of well over two hundred million square feet of commercial buildings throughout Boulder County. His tireless work ethic, honest and direct approach, and his dedication to getting the job done right earned the respect of many subcontractors in the Boulder construction community. Time loved his work and was always excited to start a new project.




Tim was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Tim met the love of his life, Pam, in 1978. Together they raised three wonderful children and shared a beautiful life for 43 years. Tim was exceedingly proud of his children, and he absolutely adored being “Pawpaw” to his grandson, Lewis.




Endlessly capable, Tim was always ready to lend a hand to family and friends as well as with school projects or repairs around the house. Tim designed and built the family home in Boulder’s Foothills where they lived for 37 years. Tim enjoyed hiking near his home and did so almost daily. He summited at least a dozen Colorado Fourteeners, and he spent many a Sunday skiing at Eldora Mountain Resort. In retirement, Tim and Pam traveled the world including a trip to Africa just this year.




Tim was blessed to have a large community of family and friends who will miss him dearly. Tim is survived by his wife, Pam (Rieger) Kane, of Boulder, Colorado; daughter, Erin (Blake) Walters of Longmont, Colorado; grandson, Lewis Kane Walters of Longmont, Colorado; son, Jason Kane of Lyons, Colorado; son Tyler Kane (Kaitlyn Jeanis) of Jamestown, Colorado; sister Kathleen Medder of Godfrey, Illinois; brother, Brian Kane of River Ranch, Florida; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Barbie and Dale Rieger of Lafayette, Colorado; and brother-in-law, Randy (Erin) Rieger of Cottonwood, Arizona. Tim was pre-deceased by his parents, Charles and Phyllis Kane, and by his brother, Michael B. Kane.




A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, December 19, 2021, at 11:00 MST at the Wedgewood at Boulder Creek Event Center. A livestream and/or recording of the service can be accessed at www.ckpmedia-services.com/live.

ATLANTA — William E. Kemp, 69, of Atlanta, formerly of Minneapolis, passed away at 1:55 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, at his home.


Visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home, Atlanta. His funeral at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Atlanta Township Cemetery, Atlanta.


William Eugene Kemp was born May 31, 1950, in Salem, the son of Gordon and Alta Hines Kemp. He married Barbara Ahlers on July 8, 1978. She preceded him in death on March 9, 2013.


William is survived by his children, William E. Kemp Jr., Robert E. Kemp, Mandy (Chris) Scranton and Desiree (Caleb Cline) Hicks; six grandchildren, Dakota Hardesty, Gabriel Kemp, Carter Hicks, Rebekah Kemp, Adam Kemp, and Ethan Kemp; girlfriend, Michelle "Mickey" Hockett, and her daughter, Susie Keegan.


He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers.


William was a truck driver and land surveyor. He was of the Christian faith.


Memorials may be made to the family. Final arrangements are entrusted to Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home of Atlanta.

John Kohrig

Comment: John Rodney Kohrig, 16, was pronounced dead on arrival at Salem Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, July 12, 1966, after collapsing while water skiing on Lake Centralia.  John was the son of Mr. & Mrs. Karl Kohrig of 300 Indiana in Salem.  He was at the lake on Tuesday afternoon around 4:30 p. m. with his father and a friend, Mike Vieira.  They were in a boat towing John on skis when he suddenly dropped the ski rope and fell forward.  His life jacket held him up, and his father and Vieira pulled him into the boat and rushed for shore.  On the way, both tried unsuccessfully to revive him with mouth-to-mouth respiration.  When they got him to the dock, more artificial respiration was tried, and Salem firemen were called.  Firemen used their resuscitator and the youth was then brought by ambulance to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.  Just the previous Friday at the Salem City Pool, Kohrig had collapsed on the bank after swimming across the pool under water, and a lifeguard revived hm with mouth-to-mouth respiraton.  At that time, it was thought that John had suffered the ill-effects of hyper-ventilation.  Coroner Valjean Burgess said that a cause of death had not been determined, pending an autopsy report. An inquest was scheduled for the following week.  John was born in Salem, IL, on January 10, 1950, the son of Karl and Erlene (Thomas) Kohrig.  In addition to his parents, he was survived by three brothers, Tom, Tony, and Gary, all at home; paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Richard Kohrig of Salem; and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Effie Thomas also of Salem.  John was active in sports and was a member of the band at Salem Community High School where he would have been a Junior.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Salem.  Services were held at the church on Friday, July 15, 1966, with Rev. Olive R. Rice officiating.  Burial was in Paradise Cemetery in Salem.  Bowman-Hancock Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
