Harold Bray

Comment: A visitation service was held from 4 to 8 p. m. on Friday, October 3, 2014, at the Irvin Funeral Home in Centralia for Harold "Jack" Bray, 63, of Centralia. IL.  Military rites were accorded by the American Legion Post #446 and V. F. W. Post #2055.





Bray died on Wednesday, October 1, at his home in Centralia.  He was born in Russellville, Alabama, on December 31, 1950, the son of Wallace Odell and Luevenia (Scott) Bray.  On May 27, 1972, he married Janet Ring in Salem.





Harold worked as a staionary fireman for Murray Center in Centralia from 1976 to 2012.  He was a life-long area resident.  Harold was a member of  American Legion Post #446, V. F. W. Post #2055, Mouse, Elks, and Colonial Golf Club.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, and spending time with is grandson.  He was in the United States Army where he served during Vietnam.





Survivors included:  his wife Janet Bray of Centralia; mother, Luevenia Bray of Salem; son Coby Bray and wife Jeannie of Bismarck, Missouri; daughter Susan Bray of Breese; brother Wallace "Wally" Bray and wife Cindy of Atlanta, Georgia; sisters, Betty Woodward of Iuka, Lynda Gordon and husband Glenn, Jan Mast, Cindi "Sue" Graham and husband Danny, Brenda Shipley and husband Bill, all of Salem; and a grandchild, Brandon Bray.





He was preceded in death by:  his father; a brother-in-law Larry Woodward; and a brother Louie Dexter Bray.





For those who wished, memorials could be made to the American Legion Post #446, V. F. W. Post #2055, or Janet Bray for a special hunting and fishing program for youth.  Donations were accepted at the Irvin Funeral Home in Centralis, which was in charge of arrangements.

Carol Brewer (Sinclair)

Carol Ann Brewer, 46, of Salem died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 1997, at St. Mary's Hospital in Centralia. 


She was born Aug. 20, 1950, in Salem, daughter of Glen and Mildred (Anspach) Sinclair. 


She married Dwaine Brewer on April 16, 1987, in Salem, and he survives.  Other survivors included her father, Glen Sinclair of Kell; one son, Ronald Eugene Spencer; three step-sons, Jack Brewer, Travis Brewer, and Jessie Brewer; one step-daughter, Tonya Brewer; one sister, Diana Clark and husband, Larry of Salem; fifteen nephews and nieces; four great-nephews, one step-great-nephew; and two special friends, Pamela Gooden of Ferguson, MO, and Misty Wernsmen of Centralia. 


Mrs. Brewer was a homemaker.  She was a member of Salem General Baptist Church. 


Services were held at 1 p. m. Friday, Feb. 28, at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem with the Rev. Ralph Albert officiating.  Interment followed at Snowville Cemetery in Iuka.  Memorials could be made to the American Lung Association and were received at the funeral home.

Chris Allen Brown

2018 06/30 – Chris Allen Brown













Chris Allen Brown, age 68, of Salem, died June 26th, 2018 at his home. He worked for Texico Pipeline for 25 years and later Power Technique for 15 years. Chris was a member of the Salem Elks Club.





At Chris’s request, there will be no public services. Memorials may be left at the Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem who is in charge of arrangements.





Survivors include wife: Charlott (Pugh) Brown of Salem; daughter: Sharon Elwood and husband Bartt of Salem; step-son: Rick Garner and wife Kathi of Patoka; step-daughter: Elizabeth Trowbridge and husband Rick of Tennessee; grandchildren: Allie Garner, Hannah Hall, Travis Nattier, Mallory Moore, Brody Elwood and Jack Garner.





Chris Allen Brown was born on February 25th, 1950 in Iuka to Kenneth F. Brown and Wanda K. ‘Sue’ (Metcalf) Brown. He married Charlotte (Pugh) Brown of Salem on June 8th, 1974 in Iuka. Both of his parents preceded him in death. His wife survives.

Thelma Brown

Comment: Thelma Brown, 65, passed away at the Hernando Hospice Home in Spring Hill, Florida, on August 27, 2015.  She was born in Salem, Illinois, and was the daughter of Cortes and Hazel (Powless) Brown.  She attended grade and high school in Salem, graduating in the SCHS Class of 1968 which was one of the highlights of her life as she often mentioned.





Thelma moved to Rushville, Indiana, with her parents and brother, "Joe", living with them until her parents were deceased. She then lived with her uncle and aunt, Willie and Doris Roe, who lived in Manila, Indiana.  She moved with them to Weeki Wachee, Florida, in 1976.





Thelma loved to do craft work, and belonged to several craft groups in the area.  She also loved to play the organ.  She became active in the First Baptist Church in Weeki-Wachee Acres, Florida.  She was happiest when she was able to do activities for the Church and help other people.  You would not hear a bad word from her as she really tried to live a happy life and do good Christian Work.





Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Cortes and Hazel (Powless) Brown; her uncle and aunt, Willie and Doris Roe; a brother, Freddie Joe Brown and wife Lena and their children in Rushville, Indiana; a cousin, Eileen Rutledge and husband Jim of Spring Hill, Florida; and several cousins in Florida, Indiana, and Illinois.





A memorial service was held at the First Baptist Church in Weeki Wachee, Florida with Pastor Raymond Willis officiating.  A dinner followed the service.





In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the National Cancer Society or the HPH Hospice at 12260 Cortez Blvd, Brooksville FL 34613 were requested. 





A special thanks was extended to all of the people who were involved in Thelma's care and to the Turner Funeral Home for their assistance.
