Welcome classmates. We have entered all the names of those who went to school with us in Salem.  Some may have moved away before graduation, and some have passed away but we are all reunited on this website.

DeeDee Cordes (Hackworth)

Comment: Classmate Deatra “Dee Dee” Ann Cordes, 65, of Centralia died on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon, IL.


 


She was born May 7, 1950, in Sandusky, Ohio, daughter of William Ellis Hackworth, Jr. and Catherine Ann (Anderson) McIntosh.


 


She is survived by her mother, Catherine Ann McIntosh of Iuka; three sisters, Christine Smith and husband Paul of Salem, Cathy E. Marble and husband Jerry of Salem, and Karen E. Sauter of Iuka; two grandchildren, Skylar and Kyle Claypool of West Virginia; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.   She was preceded in death by her father; a son, Joseph Francis Claypool, Jr.; and her step-father, Gary E. McIntosh.


 


Dee Dee was a secretary, bookkeeper, waitress, and bartender-manager.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.


 


Services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem, with Calvin Jean officiating.  Interment will follow in Rabbit Grove Cemetery.


 


Friends may call from 10 to 11 a. m. on Saturday at the funeral home.


 


Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Darwin “Gene” Cushman, Jr., 71, of Salem, passed away Friday, June 10, 2022 at Salem Township Hospital. Gene served in the U.S. Navy. He worked at Hollywood Candy Company, Leaf and Little Fuse. He enjoyed drinking coffee at The Pantry, fishing and working on things. He cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.





Per Gene’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded and a Private Family Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shawnda Cushman and will be accepted at the Sutherland-Garnier Funeral Home at 235 North Sycamore Street Centralia, Illinois 62801, (618)532-3523, who is honored to be of service to the Cushman Family. Gene is survived by his son: Darwin “DG” Cushman III and wife Shawnda of Central City; three grandchildren: Jayden, Jaxon, and Julia Cushman all of Central City; two brothers: Brian Cushman and wife Barb of Kell and Dalan Cushman and wife Connie of Centralia; two sisters: Darlana Cushman and Andrea Cushman both of Salem; several nieces and nephews; and a special cousin: Dave Finley and wife Jane of Effingham.





He was born July 24, 1950 in Shelbyville, Illinois, the son of Darwin G. Cushman, Sr. and Dorothy Marilyn (Douglas) Cushman. He married Ramona Hugo in 1976 and later divorced. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

James “Jim” M. Davidson, age 68 of Salem, died Tuesday, July 24th at Twin Willows Nursing Center in Salem. He was a plant manager at Jiffy Packaging in Salem and National Corporate Manager of Customer Service for North America and Canada for Jiffy. He earned a Bachelors degree from Millikin University and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church.





Funeral services for James “Jim” M. Davidson will be held Sunday, July 29 at 1:30PM at Rogers-Atkins Funeral Home in Salem, with Lori Harvey officiating. Burial will be at East Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Visitation will be Saturday from 5-7PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church or Gideons International and will be received at the funeral home.





Survivors include a sister: Barbara Daniels and husband Lou of Salem; nephews Craig Daniels of Salem and Bryan Daniels of Indianapolis, IN.





James “Jim” M. Davidson was born February 15, 1950 in Salem to James W. Davidson and Clorene (Mason) Davidson. They both preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one brother, George Davidson and a nephew, Kevin Daniels

David Deason

Comment: David A. Deason, 30, of Yorkville, IL, and formerly of Salem, died Sunday, Nov. 30, 1980, from injuries he sustained in an automobile accident in Murphysboro, IL.  He was born in St. Louis, MO, the son of Lester A. and Martha (Small) Deason, on Feb. 27, 1950. 
David attended Oak Park Grade School and graduated from Salem Community High School in 1968.  Best friends were David Broom, David Cantrell, Bob Jamison and Chris Brown.  David graduated from Blackburn College in Carlinville in 1972. He married Mary Kay Finnell in Morris, Illinois in 1972.  He graduated from Illinois State Police School in 1978 and was stationed in Joliet, Illinois.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, December 2, at the Larson Funeral Home in Yorkville. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Salem, with burial in Paradise Cemetery in Salem.  A memorial was established for the First United Presbyterian Church in Salem.  Rankin Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
